Most modern uses of the word “meditation” have nothing to do with Scripture. Mindfulness traces to Buddhism. Centering prayer is medieval mysticism repackaged in the 1970s. Eastern traditions teach the opposite of what Scripture commands. This video walks through four traditions and reductions that have all worn the same word, and what each of them gets wrong—honest critique, not contempt, so biblical meditation can be received for what it is.
